The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) is a unique self regulatory organisation and an influential voice for the global capital market. It represents
a broad range of capital market interests including global investment banks and smaller regional banks, as well as asset managers, exchanges, central banks, law firms and other professional advisers amongst its member firms. ICMA’s market conventions and standards have been the pillars of the international debt market for over 40 years.

Regulatory Policy and Market Practice

ICMA’s mission is to make sure that the international capital market works as efficiently as possible. To this end it promotes best market practice by maintaining  the framework of cross border issuing, trading and investing through development of internationally accepted standard market practices.
It also liaises closely with governments, regulators, central banks and stock exchanges, both at national and international level, to ensure that financial regulation promotes the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the market.

Since its earliest origins, ICMA has performed a central and crucial role in the international capital market by providing a global framework of industry-driven rules and recommendations which regulate and guide the issuance, trading
and settlement of international securities.

Education

ICMA has for many years made investment in executive education for the financial markets a priority. Its core executive certification programmes are widely recognised as the standard for competence in the market and are successfully completed by large numbers of international participants each year. The ICMA Centre at the University of Reading administers and oversees ICMA’s executive education programmes.
